An 18th century, Breccia marble sink

SOLD

Reference N°:

297-26

Very rare 18th-century Breccia marble sink, of substantial rectangular form with a deeply carved oval basin and subtly tapered body. Carved from “Verdun” Breccia marble, distinguished by its dramatic brecciated structure—an intricate composition of angular fragments in contrasting tones of black, night blue, white, and warm brown, naturally cemented into a highly decorative surface.

The interior of the basin is finely smoothed and gently graded toward the drain aperture, allowing for efficient water flow, while the exterior retains a more tactile, sculptural character.

Condition: Very good for its age, showing expected surface wear and patina, with minor chips and small losses along the edges. No cracks or restorations observed; the piece remains structurally sound and fully functional.

Salvaged from a town house in Calce, Southern France. 18th century
