A mid-18th century, French stone sink

SOLD

Reference N°:

270-25

A rare, 18th century French limestone sink, of sculptural form, the sink carved from a single block of limestone with a central oval basin flanked by two integral drainboards, each gently tapering towards the centre. The front edge slightly lowered, the design achieving a harmonious balance between function and elegance. The stone exhibits a fine, timeworn surface with subtle tool marks and a natural patina accrued over centuries of use.

The interior of the basin is smoothly worn, ensuring efficient water drainage, while the overall structure remains sound, watertight, and free of cracks or structural breaks. Minor abrasions, scuffs and small losses  are present, consistent with age and use, and contribute to the authenticity of the piece.

Very fine condition with wear commensurate with age and use. Minor surface abrasions and small losses. Structurally sound, watertight, and stable.
