A rare, 18th century oval stone font

Reference N°:

267

An exceptional 18th-century oval French stone font, finely hand-carved from mellow Pierre de Thénac. The piece features beautifully proportioned gadroons around the body and a well-defined cavetto moulding beneath the upper edge—hallmarks of refined French stonework of the period.

The font remains in excellent, fully usable condition. The stone has developed a naturally weathered surface, lending it an attractive, time-worn patina. Minor wear to the upper edge and a few small, unobtrusive chips and scuffs are consistent with age and add to its authenticity. The interior is smooth and clean, ensuring perfect water drainage. Structurally sound and watertight, with no cracks or breaks.
