A finely carved font in deep black Pierre de Tournai, dating to the late 17th century. The vessel takes the form of a stylized scallop shell, with crisp, radiating flutes. The surface displays a finely chiseled finish, characteristic of skilled stonework from the Southern Netherlands, where Pierre de Tournai was widely prized for its density, durability, and lustrous black surface.
The rim shows several small losses along the upper edge, together with scattered scuffs and abrasions to the body, consistent with long use and handling over time. The deep black stone retains a rich, mellow patina, its natural polish enhanced by centuries of wear. Structurally sound.
