A rare and elegant 16th-century font, finely carved from Carrara marble. Octagonal in form, the drum-shaped body is adorned on each of its eight facets with a delicately executed rosette motif, emblematic of Renaissance ornamentation.
In very good condition. The surface bears scattered scuffs, minor chips, and skilfully filled, superficial hairline cracks consistent with age and use. One facet shows a notable loss near the upper edge (see photographs for detail). Despite these cosmetic imperfections, the piece remains structurally sound and stable.
The interior basin has been smoothly finished, with a gentle gradient allowing for efficient water drainage—indicating it was both functional and ceremonial in its original context.
