A substantial, 18th century Dutch limestone sink

A rare, rectangular black limestone sink with beautifully moulded front. Carved out of Belgian "petit granit" limestone, which shows the inclusion of small, white fossilised shells and other organic organisms. Exquisite chiseled finish on the body. In very good, usable condition. Some light wear, consistent with age and use. A few unobtrusive knocks and chips on the edges (please refer to pictures). No cracks or breaks, structurally sound and perfectly water tight. The surface of the bottom is smooth and allows a perfect drainage of the water. Any standard drain strainer or drain plug fits into the drainage hole.

Salvaged from a town house in 's Hertogenbosch, Southern Netherlands, ca. 1750
